The Tantive IV was used often by Princess Leia to carry out secret missions aimed at assisting the Rebel Alliance. The Tantive IV was last used in the movies to obtain the plans for the Empire's Death Star. Although Princess Leia was captured during the mission, she was able to pass the plans for the Death Star to R2-D2, who was instructed to deliver them to Obi-Wan Kenobi on the planet Tatooine.

After failing to find the Death Star plans aboard Tantive IV, Darth Vader ordered the entire crew to be killed, and the ship to be destroyed.
